Students Handbook
General Information
Every student should familiarize himself/herself with the content of this book, as ignorance will not be an excuse.
Registration
- Students, must register promptly for their for their courses and examinations every semester as directed and scheduled or shall be barred from classes and from examinations.
- At the time of registration, students may also be required to register and pay to their professional associations.
- Students, at the beginning of their programmes of study, must register with names they intend to use throughout, the institution does not allow any change of name in the middle of programmes.
- Late registration on special consideration will attract penalty including a fine to be specified by the registrar.
- He/she must have paid the appropriate fees
- He/she must have duly registered for the session
- He/she must have written at least one semester Examination.
- He/she must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0
- An overall attendance of not less than 75% is required for each course. Students who fail to satisfy this requirement will not take examinations.
- Any student who is late for a lecture may be marked absent and may also be refused entry into the class.
- Absence from any part of the course examinations must be supported by valid document or certified medical report.
- The council of the Innovative Institute is the Supreme governing body and has the responsibility for the overall activities in the institution, the control of its opinion, is calculated to facilitate the carrying out of the activities of the college.
- The Governing Council is headed by a Chairman and has representation from Education, Industries, and Technologies. Innovative Institute is a member of the Council whilst the Registrar is the Secretary.
- Students are expected to make original of their credential available for screening during registration every session or at any other time the Institute may require them.
- Any student who gains admission into the Institute with forged certificates or credential does so at his/her own peril. Any student found to have done so, at any stage of the programmes stands dismissed from the Institute.
- Any student found not to have met the Institute’s advertised entry requirements at the time his/her admission may have his/her admission withdrawn.
- Management will provide hostels for female and male students in the permanent site to make students more comfortable. However, students are to that provision of accommodation is a privilege and not a right. The Istitute authority can withdraw this privilege from any student deemed to have violated standing regulations. Any student who appears before the student’s disciplinary committee and had been found guilty and given a letter of warning and not suspension forfeits all entitlements to hostel accommodation.
- Accommodation is not transferrable: it is a serious misconduct for nay student to sell his/her accommodation to another student. This offence may attract dismissal from the Institute. Squatting is prohibited, and squatting or accommodating persons who are not bonafide student of the institution is even a greater misconduct which may attract dismissal from the Institute.
- Cooking in hostel(s): under no circumstance should students cook in the hostel(s). This is essential to forestall fire outbreak and inconvenience to other students, contravention of this regulation may lead to suspension from the hostel.
- The Institute, like the nation, frowns at the existence of secret societies or cults in the institution. All secret societies/cults remain banned in the Institute. It is criminal offence to belong to secret cults/societies. The penalty is dismissal and/or prosecution.
- It is also an offence for any student to be in possession of gun, hand grenade, live ammunitions or any other such dangerous weapon on the Institute’s premises. The penalty is immediate dismissal or prosecution.

New students with serious problems may apply through their Heads Of Department and Directors of Schools to the conditions;A.
Attendance
The Innovative institute operates a continuous assessment and end of semester examination system. To this end:
Eligibility for Promotion and Award of Diploma
To be eligible for promotion from one class to the next or for award of Diploma, a student must score an aggregate score to the course. See other details under the Course Unit/Semester System (Section 7.0)SPORTS
Sporting activities will be developed in the institution. There are going to be varieties of sports to cater for all interests. There is going to be sports coach to be attached to the Students Affairs Unit whose duty is to organize sports and coaching. He will be assisted by other coaches and volunteers. Soccer is very popular in the country and will be made popular also in the polytechnic. The management will give active assistance and encouragement to all aspects of sports in the polytechnic.BANKING FACILITIES
The Institute will encourage commercial banks to operate on the campus if moved to the permanent site. This will allow staff and students enjoy banking facilities and services.MEDICAL CARE
There will be medical centre which will open 24 hours daily, it will be headed by a medical director who will be assisted by a team of qualified medical personnel. The facilities at the center will include: X-Ray, machine, immunization, pharmacy, sickbay, ambulance, laboratory and family planning (this will be at the permanent site. Students must register at the centre when fully operational, if they are to make use of these facilities.EXAMINATION AND EXAMINATION MISCONDUCT
Examination constitutes a very important aspect of the Institute functions, students are therefore advised in their own interest to abide by the Institute Rules and Regulations. The Institute takes a very serious view of any form of misconduct. The penalty for cheating in an examination and examination misconduct in general could include dismissal.CERTIFICATE FORGERY
STUDENTS WITH ACADEMIC PROBLEMS
Most departments in the Institute have programmes lecturer/heads of department to whom academic or other problems should in the first instance be directed. Such problems may also be directed to the Registrar as the case may be.DISRUPTION OF CLASSES
Under no circumstances should a student, whether a member if Student’s Association Executive or not, disrupt a class in progress. This particular applies during the period of students electioneering campaign. Serious disciplinary action will be taken against any student who contravenes this regulation.NOISE
All types of noise must be kept down to the barest minimum in the vicinity of the academic area, medical centre, laboratory and the hostels. This is to avoid distraction to others.DEMONSTRATION
Not less than 48 hours in writing to the Rector is required for any student demonstration, grievances, and meetings. It should be noted that violent demonstrations/meetings are strictly forbidden. Violation of this regulation will attract serious penalties which may include expulsion.HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
SOCIETIES/CLUBS
There will be on display in the Students’ Affairs Unit of the Polytechnic a list of societies/clubs approved by the institution of which membership is open to all bonafide students. No society/club should be operated without the approval of Institute.SECRET SOCIETIES/CULTS
NOCTURNAL MEETINGS
Nocturnal/clandestine meetings are banned in the Institute.GENERAL COMPORTMENT
Students of the Institute are expected to comport themselves as responsible members of the society. Any student caught engaging in any form of verbal or physical combat will be disciplined.PROGRAMMES OFFERED
There are currently a varied and diversified number of academic programmes being offered by various departments in the Institute. Whereas, most of these programmes are available at certificate level. This is as a result of lack of space. As soon as we move to the permanent site, more programmes will come up at both National and National Diploma levels.A full-time diploma programmes is of two years duration while part-time equivalent takes three (3) years, both programmes however lead to the award of the same Diploma. The programmes available and the entry requirements are as follows;
